SILVIA
Relax & Stretch

  • Silvia has been teaching yoga since 2013 after practicing asanas for over 10 years to overcome the pain from a spinal arthritis in which no other remedy or intervention helped. This prompted her to become an instructor so she could help others with health related issues. She never imagined that the asanas were only the tip of the ice berg and that the yogic path is life transforming. She sees yoga as a means to cultivate an inward journey to self awareness, to strengthen and heal the body and being able to relax into and experience the joy and peace of spirit . She completed her training in BC as well as India, achieving her 500 RYT and yoga therapy certificate,as well as recently completing a certificate in Chair Yoga. Silvia has taught both in Prince George and Montreal.

EMMA FAULKNER

She completed the SOYA 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program in 2012, and did her specialty project on “Elders Yoga” while completing the SOYA 300 Hour Teacher Training Program in 2015, and received her ERYT 500 designation in 2018. Emma is currently co-teaching SOYA Yoga Teacher Trainings, both the 200 hour and 300 hour extended formats, with Prince George yoga teacher Denise Marshall and Mackenzie-based yoga teacher Cindy Szekely.

Emma’s continuing drive as a yoga teacher is to find ways of approaching movement that create strength, stability, and ease in the body, that release tension and foster a sense of connection and awareness of spirit. In 2018 she re-certified her 200-hr when her favourite teacher announced their last training. TIENNA
Barre & Relax and Stretch

  • Tienna began practicing yoga as a way to do something for herself, away from the busyness of life. There was a cyclical momentum created through practicing yoga in addition to her passion for fitness, each one being enhanced by the other. She quickly realized that yoga wasn’t just the asana practice, but there was so much more and there was something in a regular yoga practice for everyone. The small moments, breaths, and philosophy in a class kept her returning to the mat, itching to learn more and grow her practice.

Her yoga teaching is inspired by intuitive movement, creative transitions, and finding “lila” or play. Being a catalyst along someone’s journey to discovering what yoga can mean for them is what she’s all about. Whether it’s slowing down and taking a conscious breath, finding a yummy stretch, or building some mental or physical strength and stamina, she’s keeping it real and here for it all. She is incredibly grateful to be able to connect with so many individuals through sharing a practice and give back to the community.

REN STELMASCHUK
Happy Hips

  • Ren has been regularly practicing yoga since 2010 and has found a sense of home and heart on the mat. The physical practice led her to the mat, but the philosophy keeps her coming back, year after year. “Yoga” is a direct translation is that of the yoke that is placed on oxen to pull a cart. It refers to a sense of union, a yoking together, of bringing into the whole. The practice of yoga, then, is of bridging the disparate aspects of our Selves to be a complete and whole expression of embodies existence. The best way to live this practice is from the heart with joy, laughter, and compassion.

Ren received her 200-hr yoga teacher training in the summer of 2018. She has also taken continuing education in Trauma-Informed Yoga, as well as sequencing, anatomy, and yoga for tight hips. Her purpose in this life is to teach and awaken bodhicitta (open, loving-kindness heart space) in herself and all beings. Her Buddhist-Yogi perspective mixed with wry wit and humour leads Ren to the Sankalp: Get enlightened or die trying.

This philosophy underlies Ren’s practice and pedagogy. Her classes seek to bring out an embodied awareness of movement, breath, and joy. Philosophy, Anatomy and Embodied Awareness ground the esoteric into the terra firma of life.

BARB HEINE
Feel Good Flow

  • When I first came to Yoga it was simply for the purpose of balancing my physical training with some “stretching” and to help heal and maintain the body from years of distance running and bodybuilding. However, as I continued to practice yoga, I discovered that it was much more than just increasing flexibility! Yoga truly is the balancing of mind, body and spirit! As I went through a very stressful time in my life including relocating to Prince George from my community of Mackenzie where I had resided for twenty years, I found that yoga, mindfulness practice and meditation afforded me the ability to not only cope with the stress but emerge from this time with inner strength and peace. It was during this time that I embarked upon my journey to become a certified instructor so that I could share my passion for the physical, mental and spiritual practice of yoga with the residents of Mackenzie. As such, I have immense gratitude for my mentor, friend and fellow Yogi, Cindy Szekely for introducing me to and guiding me on this path! Once again I am now blessed and grateful to have the opportunity to share my passion for yoga and I look forward to meeting you on the mat here at Sunset Yoga Studio.

BROOKLYN DERKSEN
Flow and Glow

  • The practice of Yoga created a safe container for Brooklyn to come home to her body and herself in full. In pursuit of high-performance endeavors, she pushed through mental, emotional and physical limits which ultimately led her down a path of injuries, burnout and complex chronic health circumstances. Yoga has nurtured a space for recognition, witnessing and welcoming of the mind-stuff and the body-stuff that she experiences.

Through her journey, Brooklyn has formed a budding passion as a teacher, to create an environment in which students can explore the transition from a space of doing to a space of simply being. As a registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) and recent iRest (Integrative Restoration) Level 1 Meditation Teacher, Brooklyn aims to guide students through an inclusive, compassionate and explorative practice with sprinkles of playfulness, joy, nature and connection. She deeply values and believes in the benefits of yoga and connecting with the body for stress management and supporting overall health and wellbeing. Through breath, movement, visualization and gratitude practices, she invites you to join her to re-energize and recalibrate, mind-body-heart and soul!
